Beautiful and meditative writing. I was fooled by that sunny photo and laughed at the caption. I’m sorry about slushy hikes but I’m pleased it inspired these lovely haikus!

Thanks Janel! I'm satisfied to know that my caption amended your impression of the hike, lol. I thought the haikus were an unexpected and nice outcome of it too.

Keep the haiku's coming -- so thoughtful and makes me think of my own:

Gray clouds at morning

Rain blows through the dried prairie

Warm sun on my face

We may do another haiku later to celebrate springtime. Your haiku sounds like Midwestern wintertime.

This was beautifully written, Tatum. It has the sense of an impasse, of a foot and a step in midair.

Thanks Dingo ❤️ You put perfect words to it, a foot and a step in midair.

What lovely haikus! They capture the sensation, sounds, sights, and feeling of a wet blossoming winter. I laughed at the caption for Raghav's photo--slushy sounds rough for an outdoor adventure.

You and Raghav both seem to have been so intentional about building a home and rituals in Chicago. I imagine it's hard to be away from that for an extended period of time.

You have a good sense of our Chicago life and home life, Christine, and how we've carefully constructed it. I do miss the secured-ness of it all at times.

It's nice to know that our haikus were well received by you and also that you got a chuckle from the photo caption 😬 And yes, "a wet blossoming winter" is the feel of it haha

I'm sure it's not the exact feeling, but what you've written touches on feelings that came up for me while living in Colombia. I was pretty lonely, longing for more structure, and for more certainty in my future. I knew staying there was temporary, even though I didn't have an exact end date, and the time seemed to drag on. I reminded myself that eventually I'll have a different day to day, and in a bittersweet way, all of this would be a distant memory. I found a bit of comfort in that reminder. I hope spending more time planning meals can help bring back a sense of comfort and normalcy to each day. The food you are enjoying sounds wonderful! So excited to hear you are in Kyoto, I especially enjoyed my time there. So much tradition and history all around. Also love seeing the ume blossoms, they are stunning!

Yes, longing for structure, knowing you have unstructured time that take initiative to fill and just wondering about it. For me a little bit of yearning for the familiar also - or rather the ease of navigating everything and anything I'd want to do.

I thought about you a lot in Kyoto, Katie! I remembered how much you liked it. I imagine so much of what Raghav and I have seen and done, you did something quite similar and did it with a lot of presence of mind and appreciation.
